FØRSTEAMANUENSIS/PROFESSOR I GEOLOGI OG BERGTEKNIKK (SEDIMENTOLOGI/ PETROLEUMSGEOLOGI) VED INSTITUTT FOR GEOLOGI OG BERGTEKNIKK. BETENKNING

 The announced position is organized at the Department of Geology and Mineral Resources Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology, at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). At present the Department has 11 professors, 7 associate professors, 7 adjunct professors and 16 research fellows and post docs.

The Professorship will have specific responsibility for teaching and research in sedimentology and petroleum geology. Sedimentology is one of the basic topics in the petroleum geology education in two of our study programs. In addition to research in clastic sedimentology the candidate must have interest in teaching and advising Master and Ph.D. Experience in sedimentological fieldwork is required, and knowledge of the petroleum geology at the continental shelf as well as knowledge of other methodologies (e.g. well logging, seismic, and/or reservoir modeling) is desirable. The department has several analytical facilities (e.g. in mineralogy and geotechnology), and there is also potential for collaboration with the Department of Petroleum Technology and Applied Geophysics (IPT).

The successful applicant for a Professorship must be able to document his/her extensive disciplinary qualifications in important fields within the discipline. His/her individual work must document scientific expertise in one or more parts of the discipline, particularly the specialist fields the professorship has specific responsibility for. Weight will be placed on the ability to supervise and initiate research and development work.

Pedagogical skills are important. The evaluation of the candidate will be based on documented pedagogical material, including pedagogical education/training, the presentation of academic work, experience from supervising master-level students and doctoral candidates, and teaching as well as other pedagogical matters. The evaluation will consider both the quality and scope.

Academic staff who are employed without having a formal pedagogical qualification in university-level teaching and are unable to document equivalent qualifications, are required to follow an introductory one-day course in university-level teaching. The applicants that have been short-listed will be invited for interviews and a demonstration of their pedagogical ability, usually in the form of a trial lecture.

The Professor is to be jointly responsible for disciplinary matters together with other academic staff in the department. The Professor is required to participate in teaching activities in accordance with the relevant curriculum and assist in further developing the teaching programme, research fellows and doctoral candidates in his/her discipline. The professor is obligated to follow the regulations that concern changes and developments within and/or the organizational changes concerning activities at the university.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants.

The position as Professor is remunerated according wage levels 67 to 98 on the Norwegian State salary scale, with gross salary from NOK 548 000 to NOK 1 125 230 per annum. The position as Associate Professor is remunerated according to wage level 57 ? 76 on the Norwegian State salary scale, with gross salary form NOK 456 000 ? 654 500. There will be a 2 % deduction to The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross salary.
