Summary Description: The Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics (CEEM) at Columbia University invites applications for a Practice Faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level in the area of Construction Engineering and Management. Professors of Professional Practice at Columbia are experienced and innovative leaders in one or more fields of practice who bring the latest innovations, scholarship and leadership into their teaching in addition to a specialized technical expertise in the profession. The selected candidate should be a proven leader in the global management of the national and international civil construction industry. The selected candidate will be expected to teach courses related to the Construction Engineering and Management at the graduate and undergraduate levels and will be responsible for advising students in Construction Engineering and Management. In addition to teaching and mentoring responsibilities, the selected Professor of Professional Practice in Construction Engineering and Management will assume responsibility for leading and directing an expanding Master’s level graduate program, ensuring adequate linkage with industry and practical applications and coordinating the adjunct faculty in the Construction Management program.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates for appointment must demonstrate practice expertise, professional competence and scholarship, and recognition as a leader in Construction Engineering and Management. Candidates must hold a doctorate degree or its professional equivalent, with a distinguished record of leadership, achievement and professional recognition. A minimum of 10 years direct industry practice, professional engagement or consulting experience is required. The candidates will be expected to bring real world approaches, methods, and technologies from the corporate world to the School’s classrooms. In addition, they will provide students with exposure to practitioners of outstanding professional achievement and leadership. The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
