The position will be placed at the department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, at the division of Life Sciences. One of the groups in this division is the Industrial Biotechnology group who work on using and designing microorganisms and enzymes for different bioprocesses. More information about our activities at Industrial Biotechnology can be found at .
The Industrial Biotechnology group is one of the participants in the Wallenberg Wood Science Center (more information at http://wwsc.se/ ). In this centre a large number of researchers from Chalmers and KTH will work together to find new products and innovative process solutions for the forestry sector.
A two year post doctoral position on production and design of enzymes working on lignocellulosic material is available. You will work in the theme "from wood chips to material components – mining and separation", where a team of researcher will work on wood separation, enzyme technologies and downstream separation. Your major task will be to indentify enzyme activities that can act on the lignin-polysaccharide network and allow specific detachment of carbohydrates from lignin. The work will include enzyme screening, cloning and expression (primarily in Pichia pastoris), purification and characterisation. You will be responsible for building up an enzyme production platform at Chalmers. Close collaboration with groups at Chalmers and KTH will take place in this interdisciplinary project.
The applicant should hold a PhD in biotechnology, biochemical engineering or biochemistry, applicants with experience in enzyme purification, cloning and expression and/or fermentations will be preferred. Profound knowledge on plant cell wall materials is also a merit. You are expected to work both independently and well with different project partners. You should be well experienced in communicating your scientific results, both orally and written in English. We will apply ongoing appointment, until due date September 20.
The application shall be sent electronically. Please use the button at the foot of the page to reach the application form.
The documents according to items 1-4 above shall be attached as two pdf-files.
One should contain items 1-3 in the listing of material to be included in the application The other should contain item 4 in the listing of material, and any other appendices.
The files may be compressed (zipped).
If any material is not available electronically or cannot be transferred to pdf format, the material can be sent as a hard copy to Registrar. The applicants name and the reference number (2010/177) must be written on the first page of the application.
