Population Health Institute Director: He/she will also direct the UW Population Health Institute, which has a mission of translating research into policy and practice. It serves as a focal point for public health and health policy within the School of Medicine and Public Health by bringing together faculty, staff, and students interested in applying their skills and experience to answer "real-world" questions. The Institute has active programs in the areas of health policy, program evaluation, population health assessment and community engagement. The Institute also serves as the bridge to public health and health policy practitioners in the state through its core activities including an active community advisory board, a comprehensive web site, publications such as Issue Briefs, Brief Reports, and the monthly E-News, and occasional conferences and educational programs. Another integral component of the Institute is the funding and training opportunities provided for an average of 10-15 graduate or MPH students each year. Thus, the Institute brings together the health care and public health communities to address the broad determinants of population health. The director will provide overall leadership to the staff and programs of the Institute, and work closely with other UW Departments and Centers involved in public health and health policy research and education. University and community service will be expected as appropriate.
