Forums set to hear research compliance experiences
The Faculty Senate’s Research, Safety and Compliance Oversight Committee will hold a series of forums to hear from faculty and staff on their experiences with research oversight.
“It’s a chance for people to offer any comments they have on challenges they have run into with compliance processes,” said Charles Czuprynski , committee chair and professor of pathobiological sciences in the School of Veterinary Medicine. “We’d like to highlight areas in which we can make the processes more efficient and easier to manage.”
Biosafety, animal care, chemical and radiation safety, human subjects concerns, and pre- and post-award services are areas of particular interest.
The committee, created by the University Committee in 2010 as part of discussion on restructuring UW–Madison’s research enterprise, will pass its findings along to the Office of Research Policy, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and the groups that oversee research compliance in an effort to help minimize the burden on investigators while ensuring safety and compliance with research rules.
Forum times and locations are:
• 4 p.m., Monday, Nov. 14, Room 260 in Bascom Hall;
• 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, Ebling Auditorium in the Microbial Sciences Building;
• 4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22, Room 2006 in Rennebohm Hall.
Comments may also be submitted by email to researchcompliance [a] vetmed.wisc (p) edu.
Research, Safety and Compliance Oversight Committee members (and affiliations) include: Czuprynski (University Committee appointee and chair), Vicki Bier (physical sciences), Simon Gilroy (biological sciences), Mario Ortiz-Robles (arts and humanities), Tim Rogers (social studies), Becky Bound (academic staff) and Sharon Vetter (academic staff).
