Ho Ho Ho with Plymouth University!

Under the brief 'explore, dream, discover’ linking to the 150th anniversary of the University’s School of Navigation roots, Kerryn Husk’s winning design was chosen by Vice-Chancellor Professor Wendy Purcell and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor David Coslett.

Entrants were asked to submit a summary on how their idea linked in with the brief and the inspiration behind it.

Kerryn explains how he alluded to the three central tenets: “Conceptions of Santa Claus are both cohesive and enduring in public perception and not only does our concept draw attention to these notions but also the humour generally associated with festive materials.”

Kerryn used the Santa Claus theme to integrate with notions of ‘exploration’, also picking up the discovery element at the heart of Plymouth’s celebrations using the notions Santa Clause draws to mind with the personal and individual discovery of youth and anticipation of discovery.

Kerryn’s work will not only be seen by hundreds of people, he will also receive a £50 voucher for the retail outlet of his choice.

Professor Coslett said: “The entries in this year’s competition were fascinating – and the winning design is witty and direct. We look forward to giving even more students the opportunity to get involved again next year.”

Kerryn’s design will set a festive feel to the University’s homepage over the Christmas period.
