Information security: weakness in popular protection system

An unexpected flaw has been detected of a system that is widely used for protection of online transactions.
Internet services such as online shopping, e-banking or e-mails may be a bit harder to protect than expected. Arjen Lenstra (Laboratory of Cryptologic Algorithms) with members of his lab and an American security researcher discovered an unanticipated feature of a widely used protection system. Their paper was cited in today’s New York Times.
