New DVC Academic to join ANU team

New ANU Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Marnie Hughes-Warrington.
Rhodes Scholar and award-winning teacher and historian Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington will join ANU as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) in early 2012.
ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Young said:
"I am delighted to welcome Professor Hughes-Warrington to the ANU executive team. Her talents and track record made her the outstanding candidate in a very strong field.
"Formerly the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) at Monash University she has had an impressive career, with awards including the Prime Minister’s Prize for University Teacher of the Year, concurrent Australian Research Council and Australian Learning and Teaching Council grants and the ALTC Teaching Excellence Award for Humanities and the Arts.
"She has studied history, philosophy and education at Oxford University and the University of Tasmania, and has worked at the Universities of Washington, Seattle and at Macquarie, before her time at Monash.
"Professor Hughes-Warrington has global influence on historical thinking and teaching, with a significant research track record, including five books on university leadership, the nature of history, world history, and historical films.
"She will be a valuable addition to the University’s leadership team, and we look forward to welcoming her to campus next year.
"The appointment of Professor Hughes-Warrington is the first of three major appointments to the ANU Executive that will be made over coming months, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Pro Vice-Chancellor (International and Outreach)."
