Professor of Palaeography and Manuscript Studies appointed

Julia Crick
King’s College London has appointed Julia Crick as Professor of Palaeography and Manuscript Studies in the School of Arts & Humanities.
Professor Crick will be based in the Department of History but will lead development of the fields of palaeography and manuscript studies across the various disciplines in the School, working closely with the Centre for Late Antique & Medieval Studies, a thriving research community with over 25 members of staff.
Professor Crick is a distinguished historian, known internationally for her work on the palaeography and textual analysis of the manuscripts of, for example, Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regum, and the Anglo-Saxon charters of St Albans. She joins King’s from the University of Exeter. Her most recent publication, published by Cambridge University Press in 2011, is a collaborative social history of England between the tenth and twelfth centuries, co-edited with Elisabeth van Houts of the University of Cambridge.
Commenting on the appointment, Professor Keith Hoggart, Vice-Principal (Arts & Sciences) said: ‘King’s College London has a long history of excellence in medieval studies. We are delighted to be able to make this distinctive appointment which will allow us to train new generations of medievalists in palaeography and manuscript studies, and which will connect our expertise in the Medieval World, and in Digital Humanities, in new ways.’
Professor Crick added: ‘I am honoured and excited to be joining the community of medievalists at King’s. This job offers proximity to the expertise of exceptional scholars and access to some of the best collections of Western manuscripts in the world. It therefore brings unparalleled opportunities for the development of research and teaching in palaeography and manuscript studies.’
