UniTV’s first live broadcast
6 February 2012 - SUSSEX
UniTV’s first live broadcast
UniTV broadcast a show live online for the first time as part of the Students’ Union’s Full-time Officer elections. You can watch the show online.
The Candidate Question Time show offered candidates in the elections a chance to answer questions about their campaign and their views on a range of issues. The questions covered topics such as the Union’s finances, involving more students and student housing and included questions submitted by students.
The live feed was accessed by more than 200 people during the broadcast and the video will be watched by more as students decide who to vote for. The show was also broadcast live in East Slope Bar to an enthusiastic crowd.
The Students’ Union facilitated the broadcast by purchasing a streaming media license, providing hardware to stream live to multiple viewers and working with UniTV to ensure the technology worked.
Alex Anpilogov, UniTV’s Station Manager, said: "Candidate Question Time was a very exciting project for UniTV in terms of its originality and complexity. It is essential that new UniTV members understand how live broadcasts function and thus the majority of the show’s crew were first-year Media Practice students.
"The project was a great opportunity for them to learn the production processes that are not included in their curriculum. The team spent three days preparing for the broadcast and used more equipment than any of the previous UniTV productions.
"It was a great team-building exercise and I hope that from now on the station will employ live streaming as a common method of delivering content to students."
